Hi there, I'm D'Andra! Hello, my name is D'Andra Nelson. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received a BS in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and an MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. I am a U.S. Navy veteran and I believe therapy is a tool people can use to heal and show up in their world from a space of wellness and self-actualization. My approach I use modalities such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy to assist with building more healthy relationships with self and others. I believe true healing begins within oneself, and then spills into everything around us, and everyone can operate in wellness and improve their overall quality of life. My focus I have more than 9 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and veterans. I primarily work with individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, PTSD, intergenerational trauma, and severe mood disturbances. My communication style I believe it is important to provide a safe space for clients to be heard, seen, valued, and challenged in a way that moves them into thriving more in every aspect of life. My journey to mental healthcare I decided to major in Psychology after working for a nonprofit organization that provided case management and after-school care to at-risk youth in South Central Los Angeles. I saw how there was a high need for youth in the inner city. I transitioned to working with victims of domestic violence and their children and further confirmed that this field is directly connected to my purpose. I enjoy providing support to individuals as they navigate life transitions. My goals for you I allow the client to explain their personal goals for therapy and include the client when developing the plan to accomplish their goals.
